As a therapist in Pensacola, FL, I work with clients who have experienced trauma. Most people are holding at least something from the past. Who isn’t? In the case of trauma, a person is holding a lot. They have to learn how to release it, and this is something that I teach.
So what exactly is a person holding? Simply put, it’s feelings. Lots of feelings. When something traumatic happens, a person is flooded with fear, pain, stress, pressure, and even anger and sadness. There’s just too much of it, so the body is overwhelmed. We hold it in to survive. We automatically suppress it now so that we can release it later when we’re in a safe place. And the office of a therapist is certainly a safe place.
A therapist will also work with your beliefs and thoughts to make sure you’re not carrying any trash in your head as a result of the trauma. People learn things from traumatic experiences that are simply not true. We will check to see if that’s the case with you.
So if you feel like you’ve experienced trauma and have not fully dealt with it and processed it, then it’s probably a good idea to seek a therapist. The sooner the better, too. If it’s already been a long time since the traumatic event(s), though, there’s still no time like the present. It’s time to let that stuff be released. I see therapy clients in and near Pensacola, FL, and I’d be happy to work with you.
